Slang for oil well pump

An Oil Well Pump is a pump used in a well to pump or lift the crude oil from the well. Some wells do not have enough pressure to lift the crude oil and bring it to the surface on their own, hence the need for an Oil Well Pump. This pump increases the pressure within the oil reservoir and pushes the oil to reach the surface. A well produced by use of some kind of downhole pump. Pumps are required when the formation pressure is not sufficient to allow flowing production of fluids at the desired or necessary rate. The performance of well tests on pumping wells is always complicated by the presence of the pump, which often must be removed to take downhole pressure measurements.

For better or worse, the economy of the developed world runs on oil. Finding, producing and refining crude petroleum into usable products is big business. For most people, the most visible feature of the search for petroleum is the oil field pumps, or pumpjacks -- the bobbing metal constructs that dot the surface in A pumpjack is the overground drive for a reciprocating piston pump in an oil well. It is used to mechanically lift liquid out of the well if not enough bottom hole pressure exists for the liquid to flow all the way to the surface. The arrangement is commonly used for onshore wells producing little oil. Pumpjacks are common in oil-rich areas. A well produced by use of some kind of downhole pump. Over its near 90 year history, the pumpjack has adopted many different guises. If you’re not familiar with pumpjacks, head over to this article first: What is a Pumpjack? Back in 1925, when the first basic design was put together by Walter C. Trout, the inventor himself commented that “it was such a funny looking, odd thing that it was subject to ridicule and criticism”.
